Atiku Regrets Ousting Jonathan in 2015, Laments Security Crisis Now Far Worse

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep regret over the 2015 opposition coalition that removed President Goodluck Jonathan, saying Nigeria’s current security and political crisis exceeds even 2014’s lows.

Addressing opposition members Thursday, Atiku reflected on the 2014 merger birthing the All Progressives Congress (APC), driven by governance failures and insecurity under Jonathan. “We came together… only to end up in the same position and even worse,” he stated.

He pointed to intensified banditry, kidnappings, and hardship, arguing the change Nigerians backed has fallen short.

President Bola Tinubu similarly flagged insecurity as Nigeria’s gravest challenge, especially in the North.

Speaking at the Arewa Consultative Forum’s 25th anniversary in Kaduna Saturday, through the Speaker of the House of Representative, Tajudeen Abbas, President Tinubu vowed, “Nothing troubles me more gravely than the security crises bedeviling Nigeria. We cannot prosper when one limb of the national body is paralysed.”

Tinubu highlighted anti-terror drives, Kolmani oil prospects, and infrastructure like the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Superhighway.
