China, Pakistan Five-Point Plan Targets Gulf, Middle East Peace

China and Pakistan have issued a joint five-point initiative on Wednesday to restore peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East, following high-level talks between their top diplomats.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China, Wang Yi hosted Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for discussions in China.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on the volatile regional situation, reaching key common understandings.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning detailed the initiative during a daily briefing, encapsulating it in three words cease, talk, and ensure.

The proposals urge an immediate cessation of hostilities to stop the violence,
the prompt start of peace talks to pursue diplomatic solutions, Security for nonmilitary targets, protecting civilians and essential infrastructure, safeguards for critical shipping lanes vital to global trade, and strict adherence to the primacy of the United Nations Charter.

A statement by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria said Mao affirmed that China will continue to stay in close communication with Pakistan and relevant parties and play a constructive role in promoting the end of hostilities.

The initiative comes amid heightened concerns over conflicts disrupting energy supplies and maritime routes in the region.

It aligns with China’s proactive diplomacy, including its past success in facilitating Saudi-Iran rapprochement.

Separately, queries about whether the talks covered the ongoing Afghanistan-Pakistan border conflict drew a measured response. Mao referred reporters to the official readout, stating, “I have no more information to share.”

This collaboration highlights strengthening Sino-Pakistani ties in addressing international crises.
