Court remands Abiola’s widow in prison for allegedly assaulting female Police Orderly

Professor Zainab Duke-Abiola has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a female police officer.

The FCT Police Command on Friday arraigned Zainab and her domestic staff, Rebecca Enechido, before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Wuse, Federal Capital Territory.

She was denied bail by the presiding magistrate while the matter was adjourned till October 5, 2022.

The magistrate ordered that Zainab should be remanded in Suleja Prison pending the adjourned date.

Currentnews learnt that this followed a video clip that has gone viral, showing the female officer in uniform with a bruised face seated on the floor on Wednesday.

Earlier, Zainab told SaharaReporters that the Nigeria Police Force authorities framed her up because of her support for #EndSARS victims.

The Professor said that the officer allegedly assaulted was not attached to her at the time of the alleged offence.

“I rejected her posting after realising she’s been on a peacekeeping mission to several countries and should be rehabilitated first due to her mental health.

“But she came back that particular night. I wasn’t even the one who attended to her, so how could I have given the order that she should be assaulted?” Zainab said.

Recalled that The human rights activist was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) over an alleged assault on a Police Inspector, Teju Moses.

Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday said Zainab Duke-Abiola assaulted the female inspector over her refusal to breach professional ethics by carrying out domestic chores.

He said that professor Duke-Abiola allegedly carried out the assault in the presence of her domestic staff.
