DICAN Hosts Its Maiden Conference With Top Security And Diplomacy Leaders

The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), in strategic partnership with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is set to host its inaugural International Diplomatic and Security Conference.

The conference will take place on July 24, 2025, at the Rotunda Hall of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Abuja.with the theme: “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability.”

In a statement, DICAN disclosed that the high-profile event will be led by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Ambassador Gautier Mignot, who will chair a distinguished panel of speakers.

The conference aims to bring together diplomats, policymakers, security experts, and media professionals to discuss the critical nexus of diplomacy, security, and disinformation.

It will also evaluate the Tinubu administration’s 4Ds foreign policy framework—Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography and its effectiveness in addressing emerging global threats.

Key national security figures, including the National Security Adviser (NSA), Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), are expected to provide rare insights into Nigeria’s security architecture and collaborative peacebuilding efforts.

The statement added that the event will also feature former Nigerian Presidents, serving Governors, Ministers, members of the National Assembly, Ambassadors, international diplomats, academics, and civil society representatives, highlighting its broad and inclusive approach.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and DICAN Grand Patron, Yusuf Tuggar, will deliver the keynote address while Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim of the University of Abuja will contribute as a lead discussant, offering academic perspectives on the evolving challenges in diplomacy and national security.
