ECOWAS, Energy China International Explore Energy Infrastructure Partnerships for West Africa

The ECOWAS Energy and Mines Directorate met with Energy China International (CEEC) on March 16, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria, to advance talks on regional energy infrastructure development in West Africa.
Representatives from the West African Power Pool (WAPP) joined the discussions, reviewing project portfolios, technical expertise, and financing options to boost power sector growth and broader infrastructure delivery.
Participants examined partnership and funding opportunities for ECOWAS priority projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
ECOWAS Acting Director of Energy and Mines, William Baidoo and his team outlined the Directorate’s mission and key ongoing initiatives, including distribution infrastructure to expand regional energy access and energy storage system developments.
