ECOWAS, Germany Deepen Economic Partnership in Abuja Talks

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, warmly welcomed a delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

Leading the delegation, Mr. Christoph Rauh, BMZ Director for Africa, is engaged in ongoing high-level negotiation meetings between ECOWAS and the German Government.

During the visit, Rauh emphasised that although peace and security remain core to ECOWAS-German cooperation, Germany intends to shift greater focus toward economic and private sector development to strengthen and deepen their long-standing partnership across West Africa.

Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, updated President Touray on the progress of the negotiations, while Touray expressed profound appreciation for Germany’s continuous support.

He reaffirmed ECOWAS’s dedication to advancing collaboration founded on consultation, shared ownership, and sustainable development for the region’s prosperity.
