ECOWAS President Urges Enhanced Regional Economic Community for Sustainable Growth

The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Omar Touray, has emphasised the need for stronger Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to promote solidarity, equality, and sustainability.

He made the call while addressing the G20 Ministerial Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday.

Touray noted that stronger Regional Economic Communities would enhance international cooperation and multilateralism, urging world leaders to support Africa in order to foster global development.

He further highlighted the critical role of debt sustainability in driving inclusive development and growth, as well as its importance in strengthening Regional Economic Communities.

The G20, an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 sovereign countries, the European Union, and the African Union, was attended by global leaders. South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, officiated the conference under the country’s presidency.
