ECOWAS Pumps $720K Lifeline to Togo’s Refugees, Displaced

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has allocated US$719,733 in humanitarian aid to Togo, targeting refugees, internally displaced persons, asylum seekers, returnees, and vulnerable host communities as part of its Vision 2050 solidarity drive.

ECOWAS Resident Representative in Togo, Ms Deweh Emily and Dr Sintiki Tarfa-Ugbe, Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, presented the cheque on January 26, 2026, to Togolese officials including Commissioner Hodabalo-Pitemnèwèa Kadja and Lt. Col. Yoma Baka of the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC).

The funding was approved in 2024 and finally disturbed on Monday.

The aid, backed by the World Food Programme (WFP) and coordinated by Togo’s Ministry of Security, underscores ECOWAS’ commitment to regional humanitarian action amid rising displacement pressures.
