ECOWAS To Honour Journalistic Excellence at West African Media Awards

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission is set to hold the official award ceremony for the inaugural ECOWAS Excellence Award for Journalists.

The award will take place on Friday, 25th July, 2025 at 5:00 pm, in Banjul, The Gambia,

The awards highlight ECOWAS ongoing commitment to media excellence, freedom, and the critical role journalism plays in promoting democracy, regional integration and development in West Africa.

Organised by the Directorate of Communication of the ECOWAS Commission, the event is designed to honour 12 outstanding journalists from the ECOWAS Member States, selected across the categories of television, radio, print, and online media.

The commission stated that the award-winning entries showcased the positive impact of ECOWAS programmes and initiatives on the daily lives of citizens across West Africa.

The landmark event which was approved by Dr Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, forms part of the organisation’s 50th anniversary celebration
