FCT Poll Slump: Ghostly Turnout Haunts Abuja’s City Centre Units

Voter apathy gripped several polling stations in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) this morning, with sparse crowds marking the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections despite smooth operations.

Currentnews.com.ng correspondent toured units 006, 007, and 008 in City Centre Registration Area, finding election officials kicking off voting amid near-empty queues.

It was gathered that at Unit 006, voting launched at 8:30 a.m., but by 9:50 a.m., just seven voters had cast ballots, prompting the presiding officer’s worry: “We’re still waiting for people to come out and vote.”

At Unit 008, officials handled the trickle of arrivals seamlessly, with one affirming, “Everything is going on fine. No issues with the machines, we’re waiting for more voters.”

Electoral materials and BVAS machines hummed without hitches, backed by visible security from Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and Nigeria Correctional Service ensuring order and safeguarding assets.
