FG Launches NRS, Replaces FIRS Under New Tax Act 2025

The Federal Government has flagged off the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Thursday, January 1,2026, replacing the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) under the new tax law.

This transition establishes a unified federal revenue authority to strengthen revenue mobilization and management for sustainable national development.

The reform modernises administration with integrated, efficient, and technology-driven systems aligned to Nigeria’s economic strategy.

NRS redesigns federal revenue organisation, management, and reporting, not just cosmetically, but structurally to enable smarter planning, investment, and economic resilience.

Core fundamentals remain: mobilising revenues for national development, guided by professionalism, integrity, fairness, and service. Staff across all offices and regions stay central to the mission.

A statement from Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Technical Assistant on Broadcast Media to the FIRS Executive Chairman, highlights a new transparent framework with streamlined processes for greater accountability and citizen focus.

As Nigeria’s unified federal tax authority, NRS simplifies obligations for citizens and businesses, enforces laws fairly without favor or fear, and leverages innovation to build taxpayer trust and drive growth.

The statement further assured that Into 2026, NRS commits to effective, responsible revenue administration.
