Foreign Minister Tuggar Resigns, Thanks Tinubu for 4D Policy Chance

Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar has resigned as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, submitting his letter ahead of the March 31 deadline set by President Bola Tinubu for political appointees.

His resignation comes as he eyes the Bauchi governorship election on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

Tuggar resignation is also in fulfilment of the presidential directive requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to resign on or before March 31, 2026.

In the letter, received by Dr. Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Tuggar thanked Tinubu for the opportunity to implement the President’s 4D foreign policy, and praised Ministry staff and diplomats for their support.

In a statement, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media & Communications to Amb. Yusuf Tuggar noted that his tenure highlighted people-centered diplomacy through humanitarian evacuations, scholarships, diaspora database, and aid for Nigerians abroad.

It also deepened Global South ties; formed the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD); boosted economic diplomacy in energy; and secured releases of detained citizens.
