The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has thrown its strong support for reforms to sharpen transparency and constitutional compliance in the Federation Account, the core of Nigeria’s fiscal transfers between government tiers.

In a statement by Director, Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the forum described the account as the backbone of the intergovernmental system, arguing that clear resource remittances foster stability, predictability, better planning, and service delivery for a swelling population.

The Forum expressed support for the executive order 9, signed by President Bola Tinubu on January 13, 2026 which directs the realignment of oil and gas revenue flows with constitutional provisions and clarified regulatory responsibilities within the petroleum sector.

“Reforms which strengthen fiscal coherence and reinforce the constitutional framework underpinning resource ownership ultimately benefit the entire Federation,” it said.

Sustainable growth hinges on robust institutions, tight revenue controls, and synced policy execution.

The governors recommitted to partnering with the Federal Government and stakeholders, ensuring reforms yield tangible improvements for Nigerians.
