Kalu Debunks CSGGG Allegations on NYSC, Law School Irregularities as Unproven Smear Campaign

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has firmly debunked allegations of irregularities in his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participation and Nigerian Law School attendance, raised by the Civil Society Groups of Good Governance (CSGGG) coalition at a recent press conference.

Kalu described the claims as unproven from an unsubstantiated petition, with no ruling by any competent authority, stressing that a mere petition proves nothing and media trials are irresponsible.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2011 after rigorous checks by the Council of Legal Education and Nigerian Law School, no authority has invalidated his credentials.

The controversy traces to a former Nigerian Bar Association official’s petition to the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) and NYSC; similar 2023 claims were dismissed in court.

Nwabughiogu rejected the coalition’s speculation as a coordinated smear, citing independent voices, a youth group’s confirmation of his valid NYSC certificate, and warnings against politicisation distracting from Kalu’s legislative duties.

Kalu reaffirmed full trust in Nigerian institutions, pledging cooperation with any inquiry while rejecting ultimatums, threats, or protests to coerce outcomes. He warned “step aside” calls on unverified claims risk destabilising precedents through political petitions, insisting accountability demands law, evidence, and due process, not sensationalism.

Urging the public to ignore politicisation and let statutory bodies investigate, Kalu vowed to continue serving with integrity, transparency, and commitment to parliamentary reforms and democratic strengthening.
