Nigeria, EU Eye Deeper Ties in 2026 with Ministerial Summit

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, on Tuesday hosted EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, to strengthen bilateral relations.

Speaking at the high level meeting, in Abuja, Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s diversification from oil into agriculture, digital economy, and climate action under President Bola Tinubu, urging EU investments.

He highlighted cooperation on security, counter-terrorism, migration, and green tech.
He reiterated Nigeria’s strategic role in promoting regional peace and stability, particularly in West Africa.

On his part, Mignot called 2026 pivotal, announcing a Nigeria-EU Ministerial Meeting in Abuja in March. 2026.

He touted the EU’s Global Gateway for investments in infrastructure, energy, and youth programs.

He also emphasised the EU’s growing support for Nigeria’s peace and security architecture, economic development, and regional stabilisation efforts.

Both sides pledged sustained dialogue for multilateralism and shared goals.
