The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) said the Federal Government will commence the
implementation of key automotive policies in 2026.

Director General of the NADDC Oluwemimo Osanipin made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He detailed the End-of-Life Vehicle policy, which mandates owners to surrender road-unworthy vehicles for proper disposal and recycling.

Osanipin announced new certification for imported vehicles to meet standard, holding producers accountable for their products’ full lifecycle.

NADDC Boss noted that over 85 perfect of vehicle components remain reusable, with effective rollout potentially generating more than ₦150 billion annually and creating jobs.

The council is also gearing up for electric vehicles through technician training, national maintenance standards, and partnerships with universities and private firms to enhance local production.

Osanipen emphasised the media’s role in educating citizens about the policies’ economic and environmental benefits to avoid resistance.
