By Linda Ike
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has directed
all retail outlets to ensure the free use of Point of Sale ( POS ) machine and bank transfer for the sale of petroleum products at their filling stations.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate Communications & Stakeholders Management of the Authority, Kimchi Apollo on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
The Authority said that it got information that the retail outlets are not accepting POS transactions due to the recent cash crunch brought about by the new Naira design.
It asked the retail outlets to accept POS transactions and bank transfer to alleviate the suffering of customers at this critical time.
The Regulator expressed concern at the recent behaviour of the oil marketers which is causing untold hardship for Nigerians.
It further said, “the Authority and security agencies will be at retail outlets to ensure compliance with the directive, any filling station found violating the directive will be duly sanctioned”.
NMDPRA assured the general public of its commitment to ensuring good quality service in the sale and distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
