Senate Sabotages Election Transparency -CSOs

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) and civil society coalition have exploded in fury over the Senate’s rejection of mandatory electronic transmission of election results, branding it a major setback to Nigeria’s democratic development and direct betrayal of Nigerians demanding transparent polls.

Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani slammed the Senate for killing Clause 60(3) amendment despite 2023 election failures and Supreme Court critiques, including slashing election timelines from 360 to 180 days and blocking e-voter card downloads.

“The Senate has demonstrated a troubling alignment with forces that seek to manipulate electoral outcomes,” he warned, contrasting House progressivism.

Rafsanjani accused lawmakers of weaponizing courts against opposition while fearing tech transparency they embrace for campaigns.
