The Chairman, Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, on Friday released the official Notice of Election and timetable for the 2027 General Elections, kicking off Nigeria’s next democratic cycle.

He said Presidential and National Assembly elections comes up in February 20, 2027, Governorship and State Assembly polls, March 6, 2027, excluding off-cycle states like Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo, and Osun.

The announcement, mandated 360 days ahead by the Constitution and Electoral Act 2022, counters earlier speculation by detractors.

Full timetable is on INEC’s website for political parties, with primaries, nominations, and campaigns to follow legal timelines.

Amupitan urged adherence amid ongoing Electoral Act amendments, reaffirming INEC’s commitment to technology, voter registration updates, security, and transparency.

He called for peaceful primaries, shunning violence, and collective responsibility from parties, security, media, and citizens to deliver credible polls.

“INEC acts independently under the law,” he stressed, assuring readiness to reflect Nigeria’s will.
