House Approves Tinubu’s Request Of N500bn For Palliatives

The House of Representative has approved President Tinubu’s request of 500 billion naira for palliatives to mitigate the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.

The bill passed through first and second reading after taking it for Alteration of the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act, Committee of the Whole, and third reading.

Debating the bill on Thursday at plenary, Majority Leader of the house, Julius Ihonvbere urged his colleagues to support the amendment of the bill hence it is important to the country.

He noted that since the removal of fuel subsidy by the president in May 29, 2023, Nigerians have been calling on the government to provide measures to cushion the effects.

The minority Leader of the house , Kingsley Chinda said as far as the palliative proposal was a good initiative by the government, it must be shared accordingly to have impact on Nigerians.

Other lawmakers heed that the palliative will go a long way in reducing the hardship caused by subsidy.

They commended president Tinubu for the intervention, stating that Nigerians have struggled to deal with the hardship faced since the subsidy removal.
