National Hospital Abuja Generates N500M IGR Per Month

The Chief Medical Director of the
National Hospital Abuja, Muhammad Raji Mahmud said National Hospital is generating almost five hundred million Internally Generated Revenue per month.

He stated this on Monday in Abuja at an event to Mark the commencement of the twenty fifth year anniversary of the National Hospital.

Mahmud said the IGR was increased from two hundred million a month to five hundred million.

He stated that the significant improvement is due to expansion of the digitalization process that ensured accountability, transparency and efficiency of their work.

“When we started, about a year and half ago, our IGR was about a hundred and eighty, tops two hundred million per month, and we are clocking about 400 plus, nearly five hundred million per month, that began a couple of month, and we are still have to expand our digitalization process to ensure more accountability, more transparency.
and more efficiency.” The CMD stated.

Mahmud added that the national hospital still needs funds to carryout more of its activities, calling on the federal government, private sectors, international bodies, influencers to assist in moving the Nigerian health sector forward.

He said, “we have enormous challenges, most of the challenges are funding, we need support, it can come from federal government, but the federal government cannot take up all the financial burdens of the country, in terms of health. There are so many competing interests, many needs, like security, food and others. Some other factors, or influencers, or stakeholders can assist us, like private sectors can come in as individuals, and improve service or they can come as PPP to engage us, we are willing to do the PPP, International or national can come in to see how we can move the health sector forward.”

The CMD further explained that the National Hospital has heavy equipment and is the first public hospital in Nigeria to start IVF, and it is leading in Cancer care, nuclear medical in Africa and various part of the world.

He said, “we made significant improvements from inception. Initially, It was a hospital meant for women and children only, eventually the expansion of the mandate to involve all other speciality all ages and all gender.

“I don’t think there is any hospital that can boast of the number of the departments that the national hospital has in this country, so also the heavy equipment that the national hospital has.had. National hospital has been the first of so many things. National hospital is the first public hospital in Nigeria to start IVF. As at today, national hospital in Africa or subsahara subregion, is leading in terms of Cancer care, If you talk about nuclear medicine, national hospital has been in fore front. It has been training a number of staff in various fields. If you talk about neuro surgery, national hospital is recognized in various part of the world.”

He continued, “National Hospital is the first to start digitalizing our medical records. Right now, we have the most advance electronics medical records system, that has increased transparency, cut of a lot of corruption and leakages.”

The Former Board Chairman, National Hospital, Abuja, Hamza Sakwa, commended the leadership of the national hospital, noting the positive reviews it has received from Nigerians.

Sakwa called on the federal Government and stakeholders to join hand and make the national hospital number one and the best in the country.
