Senate Summons NNPCL Management over N210 Trillion Audit Queries

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has directed the Leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to appear before it on April 29, 2026, to respond to audit queries raised by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

These queries cover a cumulative N210 trillion from 2017 to 2023.

The Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, is expected to lead the appearance, alongside immediate past GCEO Mele Kyari, former Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajia, Dr. Bala Wunti, and the company’s external auditors.

The resolution followed a motion moved by Senator Osita Izunaso and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Aliyu Wadada, stressed that the 210 trillion naira flagged in the audit reports must be fully accounted for, particularly by the immediate past management.

Earlier, Senator Abdul Ningi called for the invocation of the National Assembly’s powers to compel the company’s appearance, citing repeated failures to honour invitations.

Supporting the move, Senators Izunaso and Oshiomhole condemned the company’s stance, urging that the queried amount be published in national dailies for public awareness.

The committee says failure to comply with the directive could trigger further legislative action, as lawmakers intensify oversight on public financial accountability.
