Nigeria’s Senate has unanimously confirmed Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole, a Court of Appeal Justice, as the newest Supreme Court Justice, bolstering the nation’s top bench with seasoned expertise.

The approval came Tuesday after Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters Chairman Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (APC, Ondo Central) presented a glowing report.

“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Legal Matters on the confirmation of the nomination of Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole, JCA, as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria,”
Adegbonmire moved.

This followed President Bola Tinubu’s nomination letter last week, read by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
“Pursuant to Section 231 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Hon. Justice Oyewole Kayode as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”

Akpabio had fast-tracked it to the committee for urgent review.
Senators overwhelmingly backed the motion, marking a rapid elevation for Justice Oyewole to Nigeria’s apex court.

“While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nomination expeditiously,”
Tinubu had urged, a plea met with decisive action to strengthen judicial firepower.
