House Urges Strict Enforcement of Gas Station Siting Rules After Apapa Explosion

The House of Representatives has raised a motion of urgent national importance to enforce regulations on gas filling stations following a gas explosion in Apapa Federal Constituency, Lagos State.

Sponsored by Hon. Adesola Adedayo, the motion notes with grave concern the blast on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, along Adeleye Street.

It occurred at a construction site behind two shops, causing extensive damage to nearby structures, huge financial losses, and injuries to five people including a student heading to school.

The House commended residents and Lagos State Fire Service for swiftly rushing victims to Gbagada General Hospital and other facilities.

It expressed alarm over recurring gas explosions in high-density, low-income areas, leading to significant loss of lives and property.

The house mandated regulatory bodies to strictly enforce siting rules for gas stations and outlets.

It also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and others to provide urgent relief to victims.
