President Bola Tinubu has directed all political appointees eyeing elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, 2026, ensuring compliance with electoral laws.

The order, outlined in a circular signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. George Akume, and issued by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, invokes Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC’s primaries timetable.

It covers ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, assistants, directors-general, CEOs of parastatals/agencies/commissions, and other presidential appointees seeking party nominations.

The statement instructed that affected officials must submit resignation letters via the SGF’s office by the deadline.

Tinubu stressed the need for transparency, a level playing field, and strict adherence ahead of the polls.
