BREAKING: Court Fines FG N500 Million Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Illegal Extradition

A Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, the Capital of Abia State has ordered the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay N500 million damages to the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu for his unlawful extradition and rendition from Kenya.

The court ordered the Federal Government to return Nnamdi Kanu to Kenya where he was before the forceful disappearance from the East African country on June 19, 2021.

Justice Evelyn Anyadike, the presiding Officer who gave the judgement on Wednesday said the Federal Government and its agencies violated Kanu’s fundamental human rights by illegally bringing him back to Nigeria without due process.

This is coming barely one week after the Court of Appeal in Abuja declared Kanu’s rendition to Nigeria illegal and violation of all international treaties signed by Nigeria.

The court declared that the Federal Government had lost legitimacy to put the IPOB leader on trial hence it did not follow due process.

It also quashed all seven counts of terrorism charges against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu through his special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, sued the Federal Government, challenging his adduction from Kenya.
