ECOWAS Boosts Disability Inclusion with New Data-Driven Accountability Framework

The ECOWAS Commission is taking a bold step toward inclusive development in West Africa by validating a Regional Disability Data Accountability Framework.

This initiative tackles persistent gaps in reliable, harmonised data on persons with disabilities.

Rooted in the ECOWAS Disability Action Plan (2020–2030) and aligned with continental and global commitments, it marks the Community’s pivot to evidence-based policymaking ensuring no population segment is overlooked in development plans.

Gathering Member States, regional institutions, and development partners in Abuja, the framework will strengthen national data systems, boost cross-country comparability, and enable more targeted policies.

It promises better resource allocation and inclusive services, improving access to education, healthcare, and social protection for persons with disabilities.

Ultimately, this drives equitable growth, stronger social cohesion, and sustainable development across the region.
