PDP Convenes First NEC Meeting After Police Reopen Wadata Plaza Secretariat

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting since police reopened its national headquarters at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, following months of closure due to internal leadership disputes.

The gathering, set for the party secretariat, comes days after security operatives unsealed the premises, locked since late last year amid factional clashes.

This step signals PDP’s efforts to stabilise its structure after a prolonged crisis. Officials indicate the meeting will prioritise restoring order and resolving leadership issues.

The secretariat was sealed in November following violent clashes between rival factions, one loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, the other headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed’s caretaker committee. Both claimed legitimacy, sparking chaos.

Tensions escalated with an Appeal Court ruling earlier this year nullifying the Ibadan convention that installed Turaki’s leadership, bolstering Mohammed’s group. Backed by key figures, they organised a new Abuja convention to solidify control.

Sources said the NEC meeting will draw mostly Mohammed loyalists, including FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and ex-Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, signaling unity within the dominant faction.

Agenda items include reconciliation, restructuring, and future political strategies.

Insiders noted that the NEC may form committees to address grievances and foster a broader peace process for aggrieved members.
