Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has delivered 500 metric tons of white rice as emergency food assistance to support Sierra Leone most vulnerable population and the ongoing Feed Salone Initiative.

The donation, sourced from ECOWAS Regional Food Security Reserve was official handed over at a ceremony in Bo City.

Ambassador John Azumah, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Sierra Leone, presented the rice to Dr. Theresa Tenneh Dick, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, who received it on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone.

The intervention falls within ECOWAS expression of solidarity with member states grappling with mounting food insecurity.

ECOWAS approach to food security emphasises the development of storage at local, national, and international levels to enhance risks management and food sovereignty across West Africa.

He congratulated the President of Sierra Leone, Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio, for his ascension to the chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.
