Defection Surge: Entire Enugu House Caucus Joins APC in Unified Political Realignment

A sweeping political realignment occurred on Thursday as the entire Enugu State House of Representatives caucus exited the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers framed the move as a “bold step into the future,” aimed at driving growth and inclusion for Enugu State.

The defection was witnessed by Governor Peter Mbah, who had recently switched from PDP to APC, alongside other prominent party leaders including the APC National Chairman and the former Speaker of the Enugu State Assembly

Nnolim Nnaji, caucus leader, said the decision was driven by conviction and unity under Governor Mbah’s leadership, calling it an act of political courage.

He emphasised the move reflects a commitment to aligning Enugu with the national development agenda to secure more projects, jobs, and opportunities for youth and women.

“This is not just a political move; it is a declaration of purpose for Enugu’s greatness,” Nnaji said, affirming their dedication to good governance over party politics.

He called on all representatives to prioritise the people’s interests and vowed continuity in attracting development.

Recently, three Enugu representatives Nnamchi Paul representing Enugu East/Isiuzo federal constituency, Chimaobi Atu Sam representing Enugu North/Enugu South federal constituency and Sunday Umeha representing Ezeagu/Udi federal constituency, defected from the Labour Party (LP) to APC, and with today’s addition of five more members, the entire caucus now stands united in the ruling party.

The defection marks a new chapter of political unity and growth for Enugu State, as its representatives pledge to synchronise efforts with President and Governor Mbah for the state’s prosperity.

The caucus dismissed fears that the defection could destabilise political balance, focusing instead on collective development and service to their constituencies.

The newly defected members are Martins Oke representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo Uwani federal constituency, Anayo Onuegbu representing Aninri/Agwu/Oji River federal constituency, Nnoli Nnaji representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West federal constituency,.
Obeta Mark representing Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal constituency and Dennis Nnamdi Agbo representing Igboeze North/Udenu federal constituency.
