Speaker Abbas Calls for Unity to Tackle Nigeria’s Security Challenges

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has urged Nigerians to remain united and undeterred in the face of recent terrorism and banditry attacks, stressing the need to resist fear and reject the destabilizing tactics of violent groups.

He warned against the spread of false information on social media that could inflame tensions, advising reliance on official sources.

During a special plenary on national security attended by diplomats and officials, on Tuesday, Abbas praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and swift security response, including the redeployment of police to frontline duties and progressive rescue operations.

Abbas emphasised that the House’s suspension of other matters to focus on security reflects the seriousness of the crisis and urged support for all lawful measures to restore safety.

He acknowledged reforms in the security architecture that have yielded results such as the freeing of captives and elimination of violent commanders, while honoring security personnel who have sacrificed their lives.

The House also observed a moment of silence for the fallen and called for integrated, non-partisan leadership in tackling insecurity.
