TETFund Disburses 2026 Intervention Funds To 271 Tertiary Institutions

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved its 2026 intervention allocations, with universities set to receive ₦2.53 billion each, polytechnics ₦1.87 billion, and colleges of education ₦2.06 billion.

The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, announced this in Abuja at the 2026 Stakeholders’ Workshop with Heads of Beneficiary Institutions.

He disclosed that 271 institutions will benefit from the annual direct disbursement, which forms part of the 90.75 per cent direct funding allocation for 2026.

Echono said direct funding comprises 50 percent annual disbursement and 40.75 per cent special disbursement, while designated projects and stabilisation funds account for 9.07 per cent and 0.18 per cent respectively.

The interventions target improvements in infrastructure, research, innovation, and academic programmes across beneficiary institutions.

TETFund also unveiled the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), designed to expand access to global academic resources. This is in addition to interventions in ICT facilities, hostels, laboratories, campus security, and specialised centres for robotics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the TETFund Board of Trustees, Aminu Masari, noted that although the Fund was originally created to support tertiary education, its role has evolved into a core responsibility. He stressed the need for greater public involvement in the management of critical institutions such as TETFund.

Stakeholders at the workshop commended TETFund’s impact so far, while calling for judicious use of the funds and sustained emphasis on quality project delivery in all beneficiary institutions.
