FCT Polls Today: 1.48M PVCs Collected as PDP Candidates Step Down for APC Rivals

With over 1.48 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected out of 1,680,315 registered voters, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections on February 21, 2026, promise record turnout across six councils.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leads Kuje with the highest collection rate, followed by Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), the FCT’s economic powerhouse.

INEC will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at all polling units, transmitting results electronically, while security agencies enforce movement restrictions during voting hours. “Only duly registered voters with valid PVCs will be allowed to vote,” INEC emphasised Friday.

Adding drama just days before polls open, two prominent PDP candidates withdrew in favor of their APC rivals, Bwari Area Council’s PDP chairmanship hopeful stepped down, as did the contender in AMAC.

Over 1.48 million voters now gear up to elect chairmen, deputies, and councillors in this pivotal local contest, potentially handing APC a clean sweep.
