Tinubu Suspends FAAN’s Cashless Toll Policy Amid Airport Chaos
Patrick Isaac
President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) cashless toll system at major airports, following rollout chaos.
Launched March 1, the policy banned cash at toll gates, mandating prepaid cards or e-payments. It sparked hours-long gridlock, stranding passengers and motorists, many missing flights or delayed in pickups.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo announced the reversal after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting. “The President, concerned by Nigerians’ hardship, directed us to rethink and restrategise,” he told State House correspondents.
Cardholders can keep using them alongside cash until new guidelines emerge.
