ECOWAS Pre-Election Mission Advances Stakeholder Talks in Cabo Verde for Credible Polls

The ECOWAS Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission has ramped up consultations across key electoral players in Cabo Verde, building on initial meetings with national authorities to ensure transparent and peaceful upcoming elections.

The mission engaged the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and Directorate-General for Electoral Support (DGAPE) to assess legal, institutional, and operational readiness.

It also held inclusive talks with major political parties, including the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), Movement for Democracy (MpD), Democratic and Independent Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), and Popular Party (PP), gathering views on fostering electoral fairness and stakeholder confidence.

Civil society groups, such as the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and national platforms, emphasised civic engagement, responsible media, and institutional dialogue to bolster democracy.
These discussions aim to deliver a thorough pre-electoral evaluation.

Upcoming meetings target media regulators, defense and security bodies, judicial authorities, and international partners, all aligned with ECOWAS’s Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance to promote a stable environment for credible voting.
