ECOWAS Workshop Targets Air Transport Reforms in West Africa

A key ECOWAS consultative workshop opened in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire, on Wednesday, uniting aviation stakeholders to tackle competition, consumer protection, and dispute resolution in the region’s air transport sector.

The two-day event seeks practical recommendations to bolster governance, efficiency, and competitiveness across West African skies, addressing chronic challenges like high fares and limited connectivity.

ECOWAS Commission Director of Transport, Chris Appiah, commended the gathering as a milestone in member states’ reform drive.

Speaking for President of ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, Appiah invoked Article 32 of the 1993 Revised ECOWAS Treaty, reaffirming commitments to integrated transport and communications policies for regional unity.
