Court of Appeal Upholds Order Against PDP’s Defiant Convention

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed a Federal High Court ruling that restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan without allowing former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido to vie for chairmanship.

In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel declared the PDP’s defiance of Justice Peter Lifu’s November 14 order as contemptuous, noting the party proceeded despite the subsisting directive for Lamido’s inclusion.

The court rejected PDP’s claim of compliance with another ruling, stressing no party can cherry-pick court orders, it should have sought a stay or appealed first.

The appeal was dismissed for lacking merit, with N2 million costs awarded against PDP.
