Africa Forward Summit Yields $300m Nigeria Hotel Deal with Accor, Shoreline

The Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, concluded yesterday with a landmark win for Nigeria’s economic landscape as global hospitality giant Accor and Pan‑African energy and infrastructure group Shoreline Group signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to create Nigeria’s first national hotel platform.

The pact, sealed at the 2026 summit hosted jointly by Kenya and France, signals a direct outcome of France–Nigeria efforts to convert policy dialogue into concrete investment and job creating growth.

The initiative follows earlier preparatory steps, including a high‑level debate in April organized by the Embassy of France in Nigeria, which brought together stakeholders from banking, fintech, and the public sector to strengthen Africa–France partnerships for innovation and sustainable development.

Under the agreement, Shoreline Group will invest approximately $300 million to develop ten hotels across eight Nigerian cities by 2030, delivering more than 1,200 rooms that span midscale to luxury segments.

The portfolio aims to boost tourism, support business travel, and uplift urban and regional economies across the country.

A key pillar of the project is the establishment of a dedicated hospitality training academy designed to develop local talent and generate around 1,000 direct jobs.

The academy will support operations of the new hotels and strengthen Nigeria’s broader hospitality workforce, aligning with both Accor’s long‑term regional strategy and Shoreline’s focus on institutional‑grade infrastructure platforms.

Accor Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sébastien Bazin described the partnership as a major step in unlocking Nigeria’s hospitality potential, highlighting the synergy between Shoreline’s deep understanding of the African market and Accor’s global expertise and brand portfolio.

“This partnership is a testament to our belief in Nigeria’s dynamic future and our long‑term commitment to the region,” Bazin said.

He underscored the role of the Accor Academy in building local capacity and positioning the group as a leading employer and educator in West Africa.

Shoreline Group Chairman, Kola Karim stated that the hotel platform is central to the group’s broader strategy of building institutional quality infrastructure across Africa.

He emphasised that high quality hospitality infrastructure will increasingly support capital movement, investment, and development, particularly in Nigeria where room supply at international standards remains underdeveloped.

“The academy, alongside the physical hotels, is critical to sustaining international standards and growing Nigeria’s hospitality capability,” he added.

The collaboration also reflects Accor’s expanding footprint on the continent, where it has operated for over 40 years with more than 170 hotels and 34,900 rooms across over 20 countries. In Nigeria,

Accor currently operates four hotels with 654 rooms and has five additional properties in the pipeline, adding 755 rooms to the national inventory.
