Abbas wins over two-third majority votes

Tajudeen Abbas, representing Zaria federal constituency of Kaduna state has emerged the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.

Abbas who is the consensus candidate of the rulling party, APC scored 353 votes to defeat two other contestants, Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase who got 3 votes and Sani Jaji from Zamfara state who also pulled 3 votes.

Also, the former spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu emerged the Deputy Speaker of the 10th house after standing unopposed.

The election was.open ballot exercise as prescribed by the 10th edition of the standing order and result was announced by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Majaji- Tanbuwa.

359 members-elect participated in the voting exercise to choose the two presiding officers, which led to his victory of getting over two-third majority of the votes.

The nomination of the new Speaker was made by immediate past majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa and seconded by Nnolim Nnaji from Enugu state.

In his inaugural speech, the newly elected speaker said he will not take his mandate for granted.

He thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy to lead the 10th house of representatives.
