Court sentences Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for killing an innocent job seeker

An Akwaibom state high court has sentenced Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for killing a job seeker, Iniubong Umoren.
The court which was presided over by Justice Bassy Nkanang on Thursday August 4, in Uyo also sentenced him to life imprisonment for sexual abuse of the victim.
But his father Frank Akpan and his sister Anwan Bassy (second and third accused) who were standing trail for accessory in the fact to the murder
were acquitted and discharged
Recalled that Uduak Akpan had raped and murdered Iniubong Umoren in April, 2021 in the Outskirt of Uyo after he had lured her out of her home with a fake job interview.
Many Nigerians came to her aid by helping to track her phone, following the information by Iniubong friend Umoh Akpan who alerted Nigerians on her Twitter after she became suspicious, saying she received a screening voice note from her friend Iniubong on the day she went for the interview in April 29, 2021.
The address of the venue was traced to a community of Uduak Frank Akpan who later turned to be the suspected killer, posting under the comment of the late, his first informing her of an interview.
Uduak who was arrested and paraded by Uyo Police Command after the tracking, claimed he killed her in self defence and not intensionally.
Justice Nkanang after receiving evidences by witnesses in the trial of Uduak Akpan over the alleged rape and murder of Iniubong thereby sentenced him to death by hanging.
The convict attempted to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge but was apprehended by the security agencies, the police and prison officers.
