FCT records full compliance as NLC, and TUC declare a nationwide strike

The Nationwide strike declared by Organised Labour, following the government’s inability to reach a conclusive new national minimum wage for workers has recorded impressive compliance

The ever-busy federal secretariat in Abuja was completely deserted, by workers as labour’s monitoring team enforced compliance today being the first day of the indefinite strike action

The entrance to the ministries was completely locked, even food vendors and hawkers who swarm the secretariat for their daily living were nowhere to be found.

Labour’s monitoring team was also seen patrolling the Federal Capital Territory in a bid to enforce total compliance.

Both leaders of the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and his TUC Counterpart, Comrade Festus Osifo were also said to be busy coordinating the strike.

Other Leaders of organised labour
said the strike came as the last resort, to gain the government’s attention and seriousness on the minimum wage negotiation and conclusion.

The Head of Information and Public Relations NLC, Comrade Ben Upah, said the level of compliance is impressive and that there would be no going back until the government does the needful.

The consensus among the leaders is that with the level of compliance achieved across the country, it was obvious there would be no going back until a national living wage was achieved for workers.
