Nigeria Calls for Korea‑Africa Green Alliance, Joint Security, Health Compact

Nigeria has urged deeper Korea‑Africa cooperation to tackle shared global threats, saying climate change, pandemics and conflict are transnational challenges that require joint solutions.

Speaking in Seoul at the Korea‑Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Foreign Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu‑Ojukwu proposed a Korea‑Africa Green Energy Alliance to combine Korean green technology with Africa’s solar potential and critical mineral, noting Nigeria’s net‑zero target of 2060 and the need for massive investment to develop solar farms, battery value chains and green hydrogen projects.

She called for expanded cooperation on capacity building, intelligence sharing and maritime security to address terrorism in the Sahel, piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and other instability. Nigeria praised Korea’s UN peacekeeping role and invited Korean support for African‑led peace operations.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu welcomed Korea’s K‑Bio initiative and proposed a Korea‑Africa Health Security Compact to build regional vaccine manufacturing hubs, transfer technology and strengthen early‑warning systems, stressing Africa’s current dependence on imported vaccines and medicines.

The Minister also called for reform of global institutions so Africa has greater representation at the UN Security Council, IMF and World Bank, and framed Nigeria’s approach as partnership rather than charity.

She concluded that Korea and Africa should confront global challenges in solidarity and pledged Nigeria’s readiness to work with Korea on these initiatives.
