The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned South Africa’s Acting High Commissioner to a meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026, at its Abuja headquarters.
Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on Saturday said that the session aims to express Nigeria’s deep concerns over recent protests in South Africa targeting foreigners, including documented mistreatment of Nigerian citizens and attacks on their businesses, which threaten bilateral ties.
The Ministry acknowledges rising Nigerian discontent but urges the public to stay calm, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians’ rights and welfare abroad.
