Tinubu Orders Ministers to Counter Economic Fallout from US-Israel-Iran War, Commissions Key Bayelsa Projects

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministers of Budget and National Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; and Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, to devise measures mitigating the economic hardship on Nigerians from the US-Israel-Iran war.

The conflict, sparked by joint US-Israel airstrikes on Iran on February 28 after failed nuclear talks, has spiked global crude oil prices and strained economies worldwide.

Speaking after commissioning projects in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, Tinubu acknowledged rising fuel costs but noted Nigeria fares better than some African peers.

“This is a government that cares,” he assured, pledging APC-led efforts for roads, bridges, power, jobs, and opportunities.

He commended Governor Douye Diri’s projects aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda, including a 60MW gas-fired power plant in Elebele, the 630m Angiama-Oporoma bridge, and Yenagoa City Road (I).

Tinubu hailed Diri as a progressive governor for fostering federal-state partnerships and recalled his own Lagos power initiatives.

The event honored fallen soldiers and late ex-Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha with a minute’s silence.

Attendees included ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodimma, Dapo Abiodun Umoh Eno, Sheriff Oborevwori, Borno Deputy Gov. Umar Kadafur, ex-Gov. James Ibayi, and Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce.

Diri credited Tinubu’s waivers for power turbines and Nembe-Brass road phase two, calling projects like the power plant a step toward reliable energy and prosperity.

He highlighted ongoing works: a 30,000-seat stadium, nine-storey secretariat, and rural bridges under the Assured Prosperity agenda.
